SLC PUBLIC TRANSIT CELEBRATES 20 YEARS OF SERVICE

St. Lawrence County Public Transportation (slcnypublictransit.com), operated by The Arc Jefferson – St. Lawrence is celebrating 20 years of service to the county. In October 2004, the system began with just two routes servicing St. Lawrence County. As of 2024, the number of routes has increased to 15 traveling to and from the county’s five population centers and surrounding areas.

SLC PUBLIC TRANSIT WILL SEE DELAYS ON APRIL 8TH DURING SOLAR ECLIPSE

St. Lawrence County Public Transit (slcnypublictransit.com), operated by The Arc Jefferson – St. Lawrence, announced that they are anticipating travel delays on April 8th, due to the solar eclipse. For safety purposes, buses scheduled to be on the road during the eclipse will pause operations until after totality has ended. The routes impacted include: 22, 61, 62, 63, 65, 66, 67, 68, 69, 70A, 70B, 71, 73, and 74. Delays at all stops on the buses after 2:30 p.m. may be an hour or more, depending on tourist travel in the area.

SLC PUBLIC TRANSIT SURPASSES RIDERSHIP REACHING OVER 100,000 IN 2023

St. Lawrence County Public Transit (slcnypublictransit.com), operated by The Arc Jefferson – St. Lawrence, has set a new record with over 100,000 rides logged in 2023, surpassing last year’s total ridership of 97,740. St. Lawrence County (SLC) Public Transit works in partnership with the Volunteer Transportation Center who coordinates the County’s First Mile Last Mile program, and provide Mobility Management services. All three programs are overseen by the St. Lawrence County Planning Office. The increase in ridership is attributed to updated routes and additional stops on routes 67, 68 and 71.

OFFICE FOR THE AGING AND SLC PUBLIC TRANSIT SPONSORING TRIPS TO THE FARMERS MARKET

The St. Lawrence County Office for the Aging & St. Lawrence County Public Transit are sponsoring 3 trips in July and August to the Canton Farmers Market for older adults. Those 60 and older are invited to enjoy to a free round trip ride and lunch at the local farmers market!  On these trips, clients will learn about how to navigate our local public transit and help support farmers in our community. AKWESASNE TRAVEL & AKWESASNE MOHAWK CASINO RESORT COLLABORATE WITH ST. LAWRENCE COUNTY PUBLIC TRANSIT TASK FORCE

Akwesasne Travel and the Akwesasne Mohawk Casino Resort have partnered together with the St. Lawrence County Public Transit to launch a weekend pilot transit program. The Free-Fare service will begin Sunday, July 2nd in conjunction with the Akwesasne Art Market & Juried Show and will reoccur each Saturday in July. The primary goal is to connect visitors to events such as the Akwesasne Farmers Market happening in and around Akwesasne. The route will provide service to Mohawk River and Iroquois Village Apartments, new stops in Akwesasne connecting riders to Generations Park, Akwesasne Mohawk Casino Resort, and Twin Leaf Plaza & Diner to Massena and Canton.

SLC PUBLIC TRANSIT PROVIDED OVER 97,000 TRIPS IN 2022

St. Lawrence County Public Transit (slcnypublictransit.com), operated by The Arc Jefferson - St. Lawrence, held a ribbon-cutting ceremony to celebrate the placement of a new solar powered bus shelter at the Department of Social Services in Canton on May 1, 2023. During the ceremony, Lynn Pietroski, Chief Executive Officer of The Arc Jefferson - St. Lawrence announced that SLC Public Transit saw a 43% increase in ridership on Public Transit from 2021 to 2022. The system provided 97,740 trips to passengers throughout St. Lawrence County last year. St. Lawrence County Legislative Chair David Forsythe shared comments at the event, as well.
